![]() ![]() By concentrating a large number of events over a period of several weeks, “La Fête” highlights Franco-Thai cultural exchanges and showcases the wealth and diversity of contemporary creation in both countries. Aside from the exhibitions and performances, “La Fête” allows French and Thai artists to meet and work together, a goal to which the Alliance Française is particularly committed. True to the success of previous years, the 2009 edition of “La Fête” offers a multi-disciplinary programme that is representative of the best in the performing and visual arts with an emphasis on design. Two outstanding exhibitions, Futurotextiles, organized in collaboration with the Jim Thompson Foundation, and Portraits of Shoes, Stories of Feet organized in collaboration with the Thailand Creative and Design Centre (TCDC), should delight and amaze. So should the exhibition Planet Ocean, presented on the esplanade of Zen Department Store, which we are certain will be as successful as Earth from Above, presented at the same location last year. But “La Fête” will also feature new circus, contemporary dance, classical music, Hip-Hop, cinema, contemporary music, gastronomy…and, a first for us, puppetry with the Aie Aie Aie theatre company’s show Hippotheatron, presented in the Auditorium of the Alliance Française on June 10 and 11. Special attention should also be paid to the heritage exhibition, Dvaravati. Lent to France for a large retrospective exhibition at the Musée Guimet, Dvaravati will be presented upon its return at the National Museum in Bangkok. This selection of artefacts and fine art from the sixth and seventh centuries, shown in Bangkok for the first time in a single exhibition, will enthral anyone interested in the origins of Thai culture. As with previous editions, “La Fête” 2009 is made possible through the support of our many partners and sponsors. We are truly grateful for their loyalty.
