| ‘Paris-Bangkok’ brings together and hosts the driving forces that will breathe life into the festival during three weeks. Striving to promote excellence, inventiveness and the coming together of French and Thai cultures, the opening of the third French cultural festival ‘La Fête’ on the evening of June 22nd will set the tone for the next three weeks’ activities. Paris-Bangkok is designed to surprise and amaze us, to personify the Festival’s objectives since its creation during the course of an evening, as well as assemble the actors and partners taking part in this third occurrence of ‘La Fête’. In choosing fashion as the opening event, the French Embassy in Thailand and the l’Alliance Française of Bangkok reaffirm their desire to contribute to the rapid development of the fashion and textile industries in Thailand, as well as the Thai ambition for Bangkok to become the regional capital in this field. Symbol of the vitality and strength of the cultural bonds that unite Thailand and France, Paris- Bangkok is conceived by Yves Sabourin, curator of the very successful exhibition ‘Christian Lacroix Dialogues!’ recently held at the Jim Thompson House in close collaboration with Jirawat Sriluansoi, artistic director of LIPS magazine. Unlike traditional fashion shows, Paris-Bangkok, through its unique staging, conveys a new point of view on an art in perpetual evolution. Inspired by photography, the evening commences with live fashion vignettes allowing us to observe the different positions and attributes of a woman. Next, five French designers present sixty creations during a unique fashion show, Parisian Chic, consisting of the straight and modest silhouettes of Féraud by JP Marty, the grace and impertinence of Fifi Chachnil, the multitude of colours and ethnic influences of Katherine Pradeau and the atypical urban inspirations of Frédéric Molénac. Through a wide variety of styles, Paris-Bangkok attempts to show the broad spectrum of Parisian fashion’s different trends. An exhibition of the latest creations of famous French designer Franck Sorbier will display the power and refinement of his creations amongst a theatrical décor dedicated to fashion. Within this framework, an exhibition of Thai designers will enter into a dynamic dialogue with the French collections. Models from all origins contribute to the diversity and multiethnic character of the event. Professional dancers also join the show, infusing it with atypical attitudes and postures. Through fanciful and interactive staging, guests will be encouraged to take part in the extravaganza as they are invited to take their place within the décor and play a role. Multicultural and colourful, "La Fête" opens its doors. |

| The Designers: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| JP Marty pour FERAUD Launched in 1950 with the creation of its first couture house, Féraud was immediately met with growing success, consistent with his elegant and refined creations. He moved to Paris in 1955 and dressed the greatest movie stars, like Brigitte Bardot. Fifi CHACHNIL Fifi Chachnil launched her own line of underwear and feminine lingerie in 1984, thus taking part, alongside Karl Lagerfeld or Pierre&Gilles, in the innovative movement that stirred up fashion in the early 1980s. Empowered with remarkable will and talent for risqué humour, her creations continue to seduce famous women such as Vanessa Paradis or Béatrice Dalle. Franck SORBIER As a true dandy of Parisian fashion, Franck Sorbier is among the French designers most associated with luxury. Because of this he works with Cartier, Cadillac and even Grand Marnier. His collections manage to brilliantly unite a sense of elegance driven by a love of colour and abundant detailing. Fréderic MOLENAC Fréderic Molénac belongs to the younger generation of Parisian French designers. His urban and cosmopolitan moods make him one of the most promising creators. Independent and innovating, his projects in France and abroad are on the rise. His presence in Bangkok confirms his love for Asian design in general and Thailand in particular. Katherine PRADEAU Katherine Pradeau redefines pure Parisian elegance through contrasts and oppositions from which emerges a new style of ethno-chic; the appearance of a new pseudo-classical silhouette destined for a modified and impertinent woman. |
